ALBUM DESCRIPTION
General Information
First album from Lotus if one does not count No Samples Cleared: The Mixtape. Mark of the Lotus was originally intended to be part of the Bossalaus Trilogy. The idea was scrapped when creative differences drove disc 2: The Village Festival to become an event. Owners of a physical copy can observe the spine of the jewel case to find "2001-15" or "2001-2015", which was a beat-coding referring to the first 15 instrumental arrangements of the 2000 Series. See entry: Bossalaus Trilogy for related information.
Press Release
This album sounds like it comes from another place in another time. In terms of location, that statement is not far off the mark. Nobodies from Nowhere is what the members of Lotus will tell you if you ask them who they are and where they come from. Over Washington's Cascade Mountains and across the plane of the Columbia Basin, nearly 300 miles from Seattle, WA, a matter of minutes away from the location where compact discs were invented and a short drive from the Hanford Site where the U.S. Government built an atomic bomb, is where Lotus makes music.
"This album serves as an introduction to the conversational and enjoyably, random style of Lotus. We kept the album simple and discreet in style as well as production value. There were so many ideas and complexity that we divided across future projects because we didn't want to give too much, too soon. With very little compression the overall sound of the album is very close to the earth and warm to highlight the natural dynamics. This is where the beginning comes from; growing up in farming communities gives you a respect for the soil and the "bigness" of it all. It has been a united beginning for all of us and the music we put out are like our crops, and in terms of promotion and name recognition Mark of the Lotus is a seed crop of sorts, exactly what the title implies, a mark, a calling card, etc. When Bossalaus comes to a close, the following album will be a rebirth; a new season."--Lotus
